Watch closely
Exclusivity windows can restrict an artist's total audience during the critical launch window without their input.
Streaming exclusivity windows are periods, typically 1–4 weeks, during which a new release is available only on a single platform (e.g. Apple Music or Tidal) before going wide. Labels negotiate these exclusives in exchange for promotional support from the platform: placements, marketing, editorial features.
Exclusivity windows may boost launch momentum on one platform but restrict listeners on others, which can reduce first-week streaming numbers on the broader catalogue, hurt chart performance, and frustrate fans. Artists should have approval rights over exclusivity decisions that affect how their release is marketed.
